MOVIE #1,858 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 07.29.24 This one is not fresh in my mind. I recorded a podcast on the way home from the theater (below) so I’ll leave it (mostly) at that. I get all the criticisms for this — mostly centered on the ambiguous and/or nonsensical politics — but I also think that was intentional. Perhaps that still doesn’t absolve the film of those ‘crimes’, but I don’t think Garland was trying to be overly clever. Politics are bad and stupid, and on some level this is a perfect reflection of that. It’s not a perfect movie by a longshot but I enjoyed it (the Suicide songs and the ending action set-piece make it worth watching alone). |
