Remains to Be Seen

MOVIE #1,781 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 07.03.24
Using chemical and optical treatments to coat the film with a limpid membrane of swimming crystals, coagulating into silver recall, then dissolving.
What happens when surgery footage, man on a unicycle, home movies, a serene lake, etc. are all rendered in this way? Uniting the content under the umbrella of an editing technique rather than any traditional narrative or symbolic form makes the movie about the process. As I've mentioned before, that's what these Phil Solomon films seem to be about. And that isn't a slight or meant to undercut them because they are powerful works of art. An added soundtrack of bleeps and bloops and whooshes and swells make this less like a moving portrait than previous entries, but that's still the analogy I keep coming back to. And it's beautiful.
