MOVIE #1,820 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 07.17.24 D̷I̷R̷E̷C̷T̷O̷R̷ ̷F̷I̷L̷L̷-̷I̷N̷ ̷S̷E̷R̷I̷E̷S̷:̷ JACK SHOLDER The next entry on my Jack Sholder journey takes me to HBO’s Tales from the Crypt (Season 2, Episode 12). Feels like so much of many of these episodes followed the same formula: a comically one-note villain gets their comeuppance. And this is no different. This one is also notable for its Cryptkeeper intro. If you ever wanted to see that little freak shoot hoops with skulls intead of balls, well I have good news for you… |
The names of people who have helmed these TFTC eps is pretty impressive actually, from Richard Donner and Robert Zemeckis to wildcard actors-turned-directors Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael J. Fox. Jack Sholder is in good company. Moses Gunn plays the evil uncle and has an array of cheesy quips and head-scratching, horrible insults…
The end (+ Cryptkeeper postscript) is rewarding as well…
It’s not great but I found it to be a nice change of pace. I also have nostalgia for the few times I was at someone's house who had HBO in the early 90s and we would watch this if it was on and I would pretend to like it and not scared of it so they would think I was cool.
