Ayoade has only directed two films but they're both really good. I reviewed these ages ago (before I started doing DIRECTOR FOCUS serieses): 2010's Submarine and 2013's The Double. He's also written three books, of which I've read and reviewed his first: 2016's Ayoade on Ayoade: A Cinematic Odyssey.
Ayoade is perhaps better known as a performer and voice actor. He's been in countless animated films I've watched with my kids, as well as some excellent British TV shows, including the extremely popular The IT Crowd (haven't seen this and not really my bag) and the amazing Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, which I loved and he directed (need to rewatch and review for this series eventually). He also wrote, directed and starred in the Darkplace spin-off Man to Man with Dean Learner, which I haven't seen yet. Other director credits include many music videos and an Arctic Monkeys concert film. I hope to flush out this series by year's end.
