I hope this changes, obviously, and I think it will. These films are of such a pointed and unique and singular vision, that at times — many times, if I'm being honest — I do feel as though I am missing some bigger picture, or broader idea, theme or motif. I still really enjoyed watching it, however. It's just that my enjoyment comes in moments, either marveling at a slanted line of dialogue, or gawking at some truly wonderful DIY aesthetic. It's all so fucking weird. To glean ANYTHING beyond the simple enjoyment in those moments feels like a triumph, but also like one you didn't even really need. Overall, it's only slightly better than its predecessor (they're very much a pair). We're still at the beginning of something. And even though I've seen a bunch of the later work, I can't really seem to tell you what. |
