MOVIE #1,347 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 02.05.24 ↳ IMPROMPTU JENNIFER KENT DIRECTOR FOCUS. Made nearly a decade earlier, this black-and-white short film is the basis/predecessor for Kent’s breakthrough feature, The Babadook. The boy is younger but he still likes making homemade weapons, this time to do battle with a creepy doll (that eventually comes to life). The house looks similar, especially the basement door. There's a creepy pop-up book too. There's no indication of any backstory or the monster's origin but the end is the same: mom is a bad bitch, monster. Go back to the basement and stay there, ya freak! It ends with her feeding it milk instead of worms. The monster actor is credited to someone named Trash Vaudeville lol. It looks pretty good but those 00s aesthetics are never that far out of reach… |
