This is also the first Abel Ferrara film I’ve reviewed and that is a name which is definitely 100% on the future Director Focus shortlist. Hong plays a mob boss and he really is great in these serious roles…
I don’t think this is considered among Ferrar’s best, but it’s definitely enjoyable (though it loses steam in the final act). Alongside cinematographer Bojan Bazelli, he shoots New York brilliantly, with color and atmosphere, and patience…
I will probably get to a full Ferrara retrospective by 2025 I would imagine.
